WHO WE ARE

  • About Pine Tree

In the early 1960’s, the leadership of the Mobberly Avenue and the Alpine & Glover churches of Christ saw the need for starting a congregation in the Pine Tree area of Longview. After much prayer and planning, the Pine Tree church was planted. Our first worship assembly was held in our original auditorium in December 1964. The charter membership was made up of members of the above two congregations who lived in the Pine Tree area. David Ingram was our first preacher, and our first elders were T.F. Gordon, Conrad Morgan, and James Anderson.

Our Beliefs

The Truth We Stand Upon

  • THE ONE TRUE GOD

We believe in God (Yahweh) – the one and only true God.

We believe that God exists in three persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.

We believe that God is the creator. Everything belongs to Him and is under His control.

We believe that God is holy and good. He is at work in the world to bring about His will.

We believe in the incarnation and virgin birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

We believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus as a sin offering for all humanity.

We believe that Jesus has ascended to heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and is preparing to return to, once and for all, unite God with his people.

  • THE SCRIPTURES

We believe that God reveals Himself to us through the Scriptures, His written Word.

We believe the Scriptures are accurate, reliable, and authoritative.

We believe that the Scriptures should govern every aspect of the life of a Christian.

  • HUMANITY

We believe God created man and woman in his image and for his pleasure.

We believe in free will and that each person is responsible and held accountable for their own sin.

We believe because of sin, we are all separated from God, even though He wants an intimate relationship with each of us.

  • SALVATION

We believe that Jesus, through his death and resurrection, has brought salvation.

We believe that Jesus is the only way to be reconciled to God.

We believe that those who, in faith, repent of sin, confess Jesus as Lord, and are baptized will receive forgiveness of sins and the Holy Spirit as a gift that lives inside us.

  • MARRIAGE

We believe that marriage, as designed by God and described in the scriptures, is a covenant bond between one man and one woman.

  • THE CHURCH

We believe the church is the body of Christ to be an expression of God’s glory and Kingdom on earth.

We believe the church is an extension of the ministry of Christ.

We believe the church is comprised of those who have received salvation in Jesus Christ.

We believe in the sanctity of the worship gathering and Communion, the Lord’s Supper

  • THE AFTERLIFE

We believe in the resurrection of the body.

We believe that Jesus Christ will return to unite all Christians with the Creator.

We believe that after the judgment, all Christians will live in the presence of God for eternity.

We believe in hell, a darkness outside of God’s presence, reserved for those who reject His grace.

We believe that God desires for NO ONE to be separated from Him eternally, but to receive His salvation.

Our History

In the early 1960’s, the leadership of the Mobberly Avenue and the Alpine & Glover churches of Christ saw the need for starting a congregation in the Pine Tree area of Longview. After much prayer and planning, the Pine Tree church was planted. Our first worship assembly was held in our original auditorium in December 1964. The charter membership was made up of members of the above two congregations who lived in the Pine Tree area. David Ingram was our first preacher, and our first elders were T.F. Gordon, Conrad Morgan, and James Anderson.

During the 1960’s and 1970’s, the Pine Tree area experienced rapid growth as well as the Pine Tree church of Christ. As a result of the growth, the elders saw the need to expand our facilities. The first worship assembly held in the new auditorium was on March 30, 1975. The old auditorium was remodeled to increase our number of classrooms. Later, in 1980, we added the second floor classrooms.

In the mid 1980’s, the elders again saw the need to plan for future growth. A search began for a larger piece of property where Pine Tree could expand. The Lord led us to our present property on Dundee Road, although it would be many years down the road before we moved to the present location. As our membership grew at the Pine Tree Road location, parking became a problem. The three lots east of the original parking lot across Lynnwood were purchased. These lots were cleared and then paved and the parking problem was solved.

In 1996, the elders presented a plan to the congregation that would allow us to have our first worship assembly in a new facility on Dundee Road no later than January 2000. Because of the financial generosity of our members and through the Lord’s help, we were able to sell our building on Pine Tree Road and move to our new location on Dundee Road in February 1999.

In 1999 we completed Phase 1, a 20,000 square foot multi-purpose building that served as our classrooms and auditorium for approximately seven years. In 2004 we completed Phase 2, a 5,000 square foot building we call “The Hub,” to accommodate the continued growth of our youth group. Phase 3, our 13,000 square foot, 800-seat auditorium, was completed in 2006. Our first worship in the new auditorium was on Easter Sunday 2006. In 2011 we completed Phase 4, a 6,000 square foot building we call “Jump Street” to accommodate the continued growth of our children’s ministry.

Pine Tree continues to experience growth. What started as a small church plant has blossomed into a healthy, thriving, growing church.
