About Pine Tree Church of Christ
In the early 1960’s, the leadership of the Mobberly Avenue and the Alpine & Glover churches of Christ saw the need for starting a congregation in the Pine Tree area of Longview. After much prayer and planning, the Pine Tree church was planted. Our first worship assembly was held in our original auditorium in December 1964. The charter membership was made up of members of the above two congregations who lived in the Pine Tree area. David Ingram was our first preacher, and our first elders were T.F. Gordon, Conrad Morgan, and James Anderson.
During the 1960’s and 1970’s, the Pine Tree area experienced rapid growth as well as the Pine Tree church of Christ. As a result of the growth, the elders saw the need to expand our facilities. The first worship assembly held in the new auditorium was on March 30, 1975. The old auditorium was remodeled to increase our number of classrooms. Later, in 1980, we added the second floor classrooms.
In the mid 1980’s, the elders again saw the need to plan for future growth. A search began for a larger piece of property where Pine Tree could expand. The Lord led us to our present property on Dundee Road, although it would be many years down the road before we moved to the present location. As our membership grew at the Pine Tree Road location, parking became a problem. The three lots east of the original parking lot across Lynnwood were purchased. These lots were cleared and then paved and the parking problem was solved.
In 1996, the elders presented a plan to the congregation that would allow us to have our first worship assembly in a new facility on Dundee Road no later than January 2000. Because of the financial generosity of our members and through the Lord’s help, we were able to sell our building on Pine Tree Road and move to our new location on Dundee Road in February 1999.
In 1999 we completed Phase 1, a 20,000 square foot multi-purpose building that served as our classrooms and auditorium for approximately seven years. In 2004 we completed Phase 2, a 5,000 square foot building we call “The Hub,” to accommodate the continued growth of our youth group. Phase 3, our 13,000 square foot, 800-seat auditorium, was completed in 2006. Our first worship in the new auditorium was on Easter Sunday 2006. In 2011 we completed Phase 4, a 6,000 square foot building we call “Jump Street” to accommodate the continued growth of our children’s ministry.
Pine Tree continues to experience growth. What started as a small church plant has blossomed into a healthy, thriving, growing church.
